August and September are exciting months for the University. New undergraduate and graduate students join our community and we welcome back returning students. All faculty and staff play an important role in creating a memorable orientation experience for UBC students.
In late August, we will welcome new international and domestic students to campus for Jump Start - UBC's official orientation event. Jump Start supports students in their academic, social, and cultural transition to UBC. Learn more.
On Tuesday, September 3, over 10,000 new-to-UBC students (first year, transfer, and exchange students) will participate in Imagine UBC, our culminating orientations event, and a welcome back for returning students. Learn more.
Orientation for graduate students
Beginning August 29, approximately 800 new graduate students will join the UBC community and participate in a variety of orientation activities hosted by International Student Development, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and the Graduate Student Society (GSS). Many orientation activities continue through September. Learn more.

On August 31, many of the 10,000 new and continuing undergraduate and graduate students, and student families living in one of UBC’s student residences will move into their new homes. Learn more.

Faculty and Staff Volunteer Opportunities
Help new students move into their Winter Session residence on August 24 (Jump Start move-in) and August 31. You will be one of the first faces that students and their families see when they arrive on campus. As a volunteer, you will be involved in a range of tasks including greeting, moving items, and responding to questions. You will receive a free t-shirt and lunch.

Help students find their way on campus, and facilitate lunch and welcome events.
You will be assigned one shift (unless you specifically request more) of no more than two hours. You will receive a free t-shirt to wear during your shift.
