Candidate Information

Romil Jain

I am Romil Jain, 4th year student in the faculty of Arts, majoring in Economics. I am the current president and former Vice-President of Finance and Operations of our Student’s Union. My experience and expertise working with students over the last few years, equips me with skills and knowledge that will be pivotal to this advisory committee. As the president of the Union and the official spokesperson for our student body. This allows me to widen my perspective and give views from different student demographics. I believe it is essential that student’s interest is represented in the best possible way, as this committee’s recommendation will have a lasting impact on our campus. As your president, I commit to hold myself accountable and advocate tirelessly in best interest of our student body.

Dylan Nemes

I am submitting my name to represent the student body within the selection committee for the next deputy vice-chancellor of UBCO. It is my desire to maximize the opportunities of the position in such a way as to benefit the students of the Okaganan campus. Although there will be regulations imposed upon me to maintain confidentiality, I will do my best to share any information regarding the process without violating my obligations. I urge you to vote for me. As Craig D. Lounsbrough said, "I can tell you who I am, but I'd rather have you watch who I am".

Zac Rombough

Through work experience in various avenues as a sole proprietor, member of health care, instructor, and first responder, I have learned that no one role allows an entire organization to function. In order for such an organization to be successful, all positions must work together, contribute, and be well governed. A university is no exception to this finding. In order to govern a body effectively, the voices of all subgroups involved must be considered. Due to my extensive volunteer and work experience, I can effectively represent the students, the disabled, the mentally ill, researchers, various community members, children, and the economic interest of the university. Considering this, my candidacy brings a well rounded view that serves to acquire an individual who perpetuates the correct values, includes all viewpoints, and is committed to making UBC unrivaled in its pursuit of excellence.

I cannot think of a better opportunity to apply my skills and knowledge than the one presented here. The support of my communities in my past have been formative during my degree, and they have inspired me to strengthen the communities of my present. As someone who is dedicated, attentive, and conscientious, it would be an honour to play a part in strengthening the community of UBC. If elected, the value I would place in my role is immeasurable, and I hope to have the opportunity.

Simi Toor

I am honoured and excited in accepting a nomination for the Deputy-Vice Chancellor of the Okanagan. I will never turn my back on any challenge or extra responsibility - instead, from past commitments such as, working at Delta Community Living Society, I have proven to my team and youth with developmental disabilities that I am reliable, hardworking and able to multitask and work well under pressure. By working closely with these young adults, I have learned that I can use my voice to advocate for their voices to be heard. In 2017, I have connected with different companies to gain jobs and ultimately a sense of freedom and independence for nearly fifteen young adults. Through these activities, I have realized that I can use my strong leadership skills to advocate for peoples’ needs. I have continued to dedicate myself in commitments where I can expand my knowledge to help others. Recently, I chose to take a Cultural Safety in Health: Indigenous Perspectives course, in which I deeply connected with the Elders and nursing professor. Since then, I have been an ally to Indigenous peoples by connecting to the people in Friendship Centres. I have never given up on a task and rather found solutions in conflicting situations. In 2015, as the President of Rotary Club, my team and I helped build a kindergarten school in Malawi. Funding was slow, sponsorships were hard to gain, however, within a year we succeeded. I will contribute towards the betterment of students at UBCO.
