It has been my experience that the most fulfilling situations in life are those where you ask what you can give, and not what you can receive, and so I have lived my life trying best to serve others through my work, volunteer and personal life. I would summarize the attributes that I believe I would be able to offer to the search committee into the following three areas:
1) UBC Experience Representing the Staff Voice - My 15+ years of UBC staff experience currently serving as a Director, International Recruitment for International Student Initiative. Over that time, I have worked with a number of units and built an understanding of the diversity of staff views from my previous 6+ years serving on the AAPS Board.
2) Facilitating and Collaborating in Committee work - Currently serving in the Presidential cycle for another volunteer professional association, the International Association for College Admission Counselling, I am skilled at supporting and facilitating discussions from a wide range of individuals.
3) Recruitment Expertise – During my tenure as an international recruiter for UBC, I have developed a strong sense of how individuals are best matched to the success they will bring to an institution.
I believe I can represent the voice of staff who are looking to ensure that our Chancellor respects the ideals that UBC has put forth in terms of equity, excellence, and inclusion – and can be someone Students, Faculty and Staff look up to as the titular head of the university.
