The University, as an institution, faces critical challenges in the present moment.  Society no longer takes for granted that higher education and scholarly expertise are important tools for addressing the problems of the present and building a better future. Our planet is threatened by rising inequalities, increasing political polarization, and climate catastrophe. How will the next DVC make a case to our communities for the university’s continued relevance?  In particular, where do the social sciences and humanities fit into this vision? We will not be able to understand, let alone address our local and global challenges without them. I have been active at UBC Okanagan in advocating on behalf of the humanities and social sciences in a variety of committees and venues at the faculty level. I have experience on multiple hiring committees, in hiring both faculty and support staff, spanning three faculties (IKBSAS, FCCS, FOM).  I bring a record of commitment to innovative teaching and research as well as public engagement.  Let us build a compelling and innovative common vision to mobilize the university in the service of society.
