Dr. Lawrence Burr

After a lifetime of practicing Medicine and Surgery, and teaching at UBC, I have become involved with the University in a different way – as a Convocation Senator.

During the past six years in Senate, my duties included participation in the Senate Curriculum, Library and Awards Committees. Currently, I am Chair of both the Library Committee and the Awards Committee. We have addressed many exciting and controversial issues relevant to the evolving role of UBC as a 21st Century University.

My Bachelor, Masters, and Medical Doctor degrees are all from UBC. After internship in Philadelphia, my first practice was in rural Princeton, BC. After specialist training, I performed and taught Cardiac Surgery at VGH/UBC from 1977 to 2003. Now, I have the time and capability to give back to the University that nurtured me.

My involvement with national and international societies, and especially the International Standards Organization, has developed an expertise in thoughtfully resolving multiple opinions and viewpoints while working within a defined structure.

My focus as a Graduate and an Emeritus is to benefit the University, and I would like to continue to represent the members of Convocation as a Senator for the next three years.
