I am interested in serving as the staff representative to the UBC Board of Governors to participate in the discussion of issues that affect all of us working at the University. I enjoy discussing complex issues, solving unique problems, and working with others to resolve them in ways that benefit everyone involved. I already do this in my current role at UBC providing computer support to faculty and staff as part of Arts ISIT and I would like to bring these skills to the role of staff representative. In recognition of my ability to work with departments to solve unique problems I won the Faculty of Arts Dean’s Award for Staff Excellence at the end of 2015. My previous experience on a board was with the AMS when I was a graduate student at Vancouver School of Theology as they had a non-voting seat on the AMS student council which I held for three years. During that time, I enjoyed the active debates and having the opportunity to discuss issues affecting students at UBC. I have always found that Higher Education is the best place to make a career because the opportunities for learning are endless. I would like to be the staff representative to the Board of Governors to help shape the future of UBC so that it continues to be an excellent place to work, learn, and live.
