Harper Keenan, Assistant Professor, Curriculum & Pedagogy

I am currently in my first year as the Robert Quartermain Professor of Gender & Sexuality Research in Education at the Faculty of Education. In my role, I conduct research that aims to push the leading edge of gender & sexuality research in both formal and informal educational contexts, contribute to the leadership of SOGI UBC, and work closely with teacher education. As a pre-tenure faculty member who aims to continue to build my career at UBC over as many as three decades to come, I am deeply invested in the search for a new Dean of the Faculty of Education that will shape the future of this institution. I am applying to serve on the President’s Advisory Committee for the selection of the new Dean so that I may contribute to finding a dynamic, innovative, collaborative, and responsive leader that will serve the collective needs and varied interests of the faculty, staff, and students. My priorities for the search include finding someone who will 1.) continue to develop successful established initiatives and execute the strategic plan, while simultaneously sparking creativity within the FoE that will lead us in exciting new directions, 2.) be an agile leader in fostering a collegial work environment that allows for cutting-edge and gratifying work for all FoE employees and students, and 3.) provide bold and visionary leadership in line with UBC’s commitment to diverse excellence and transformation by recruiting and retaining diverse and talented new faculty, staff, and students, particularly those who have historically been underrepresented at UBC.
