I am a high school teacher in the Coquitlam School District, an active member of my professional organization, and a current Convocation Senator seeking reelection. I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees in English as well as my teacher’s training at UBC so I have a deep connection to this institution, its operations, and its future. Because my time at UBC provided me with the qualifications and opportunities to realize my dream to teach and shape students’ minds, I am seeking reelection to continue my role as a Convocation Senator to cooperate with other likeminded alumni and faculty to ensure that the meaningful work of the senate continues. During my previous terms as senator, I served on the Nomination Committee, the Student Awards Committee, and the Curriculum Committee. I am particularly proud of having been a part of a committee which oversaw the creation of numerous awards, prizes, and scholarships worth several hundreds of thousands of dollars for the financial support and betterment of all of UBC’s undergraduate and graduate students. I bring a fresh voice to this esteemed body that reflect the concerns of those who are concerned about the university but are working outside of it. If I am elected, I will bring with me not only the concerns of my colleagues in the public education system as it pertains to university matters but also the needs and concerns of prospective students whom I see on a daily basis in my role as a secondary school teacher.
