The selection committee for the next Deputy Vice-Chancellor faces an important task, as it will recruit a candidate integral to the growth and character of UBC Okanagan.  I am interested in being on this committee because I deeply value the twin missions of teaching and research that underpin the entire UBC community.  I would welcome a chance to help find a leader who will support and value high calibre teaching, including a focus on developing more permanent, tenure-track positions and moving away from over-reliance on sessional positions.  I also seek a leader who will better support the myriad of research foci that are vibrant and emerging on this campus.  I am also deeply committed to advancing equity across campus, so I will work to ensure any leader we recruit has a demonstrated record of, and continued interest in, advancing policies that better support equity-seeking groups among students, staff, and faculty.

I have been at UBC Okanagan since its inception, and have served on numerous search committees (for faculty, department head, associate deans, provost).  I helped create graduate and undergraduate programs, and I have an active extramurally supported research program.  This constellation of activities means that I am able to speak from experience about a number of critically important aspirations and issues facing this campus as we seek our next Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
