I have had the honour of serving as the UBCV staff Board of Governor’s representative since being elected in September 2019; I have learned a great deal about our governance structure and know how I can make a difference for staff at UBC. I am confident in articulating the following four focused goals:

  • Goal 1 – Provide staff with a health and wellbeing credit (similar to a tuition credit) for programs like: fitness, yoga, aquatics etc.
  • Goal 2 – Ensure policy 107 (3rd party use of space) strikes the right balance between Academic Freedom and supporting our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion goals
  • Goal 3 – Advocate that the UBC endowment fund invests in sustainable funds to ensure UBC shows leadership on climate change issues
  • Goal 4 – Develop a UBC framework for UBC staff career development and for supporting staff during strategic changes / transitions. Also on how staff transitions are managed and communicated

In my brief time on the board I have served as vice-chair of the People committee and also am on the Finance, Governance, Indigenous Engagement and Housing committees. I’ve found the board role to be even more exciting and interesting than I originally envisioned and I’m enthused and hopeful to continue to provide a dynamic voice for staff.

In addition to my recent board experience, I am also a proud alumnus (BA, BEd, MA) and proud staff member, always having served in the VP Students Portfolio, currently with Athletics and Recreation.
