I am Marium Hamid and I am hoping to represent you on the Committee to select the next Chancellor of the University. With my experience, I want to help choose a candidate that understands student priorities and becomes a champion for student issues on all the bodies they sit on. As the past AMS President and two-time UBC Vancouver Senator, I have worked closely with UBC administration and the current Chancellor to actively bring awareness on issues of affordability, sustainable investments and the importance student representation on decision making bodies. I am well aware of the duties of the Chancellor to the UBC Senate, Board of Governors and the Alumni Board. I have previously sat on the search committee for UBC Vice President, Students, and gathered many valuable skills that will help me in this role. Having served as a member of Alumni UBC’s Advisory Board, I am well acquainted with their priorities and I am certain that I will bring a much-needed student perspective to the selection committee. If elected, I will ensure that the senior leaders at the university understand and prioritize the needs of students when electing the next Chancellor of UBC.
