Matthew Tan
I care very much about UBC. As a proud and passionate alumnus, and having been involved with UBC for 17 years, I want to continue to serve this community and all its people, hence my desire to run for the UBC Senate. I often say to people that UBC taught me how to truly learn and engage with people, and my hope is that every student, faculty, staff, or community member gets what he or she needs from UBC, and that UBC is able to evolve to provide that.
My core values are centered around respect and honour; I will bring forward a progressive, future-thinking approach, while taking into account the big picture and necessary next steps to get there, and reflect the views of modern-day alumni on matters. I respect structure and process, but also firmly believe in kindness and integrity. We were all students at one point and we should never forget that.
It would be an honour to serve UBC, to represent alumni and provide input on a wide range of important matters before the Senate. I ask that you consider me for your vote and thank you regardless for taking the time to read this and be a part of this essential process.
UBC is a special organization and we must work continuously to elevate and further its standing in the world. Our people are our biggest and most promising asset. Let’s ensure we take care of our people the best that we can.
