Benjamin G. Fischer

I have had the great privilege to serve my fellow alumni and other members of the UBC community as a UBC Senator for two terms. My extensive, crossfaculty experience spanning nearly a decade at UBC has afforded me the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and contribute to the complex issues that come before Senate.

I sit on both the UBC Senate Admissions and Appeals on Academic Standing committees. My UBC law degree and time spent working as a lawyer allows me to understand Senate procedure and has given me the necessary analytical skills to contribute to effective UBC governance.

Having spent time in many UBC faculties, I am well connected to both students and alumni and strive to be 'in touch' with all members of the UBC community. This allows me to understand the unique and distinct challenges of different faculties; subsequently, I am able to better advocate for the issues that come before Senate. For example, I am currently a member of the UBC Faculty of Applied Science Alumni Committee, and have provided guest lectures to the School of Nursing speaking with undergraduate students about professional practice.

The Senate significantly impacts the experience of both current and prospective faculty and students, and helps shape the future of our university. I would be honoured to continue serving on Senate to represent the members of the convocation, and if re-elected, I welcome your input on all issues that come before Senate.
