Referring students to International Academic Advisors

The undergraduate faculties have advisors who work specifically with international undergraduate students. UBC’s academic advising offices provide students with advising on program planning, degree requirements, and other academic issues including concession and graduation as well as supporting in the transition of new students. If students are experiencing a difficult time academically or personally, they help by offering support and connecting students to the many resources available.

Contact the International Student Advisor in your Faculty with any student concerns.

Referring students to International Student Development

At UBC, only Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC) can advise international students on case-specific immigration matters.

The International Student Development (ISD) team is made up of RCICs and advises on a range of topics from immigration and regulatory requirements to coaching students through life and cultural transitions at UBC.

ISDs work carries legal implications, which directly impacts a student’s ability to study, work and live in Canada.

If an international student approaches you with questions about permits, health insurance and academic breaks, please refer the student to: students.ubc.ca/international for online resources, or contact an International Student Advisor by emailing isa@students.ubc.ca with their student number.
