There is no one that understands and appreciates the value proposition of UBC’s Okanagan campus more than I do. For the past decade, it has been my passion and professional focus to share this message with prospective students and their parents, with counselors in high schools across the country, and with UBC colleagues. It has been rewarding to watch the excitement build in a counselor when they realize what a perfect fit our learning environment is for one of their students. Or to talk with Destination UBC participants about how everyone made them feel like such a welcome part of the campus community.
The Okanagan campus was recently described by Alex Usher from Higher Education Strategy Associates as “one of the most fascinating experiments [he’d] ever seen.” We’ve grown from a small teaching-oriented university college “into a full-fledged research university in the space of fifteen years – and it’s working!“ It is truly remarkable to think of how far we’ve come in such a short period of time and I believe we are only beginning to tap into our full potential.
With collectively over 18 years working with students, staff, faculty and senior administration at the University of Waterloo, Stanford University and The University of British Columbia, I’m well prepared to represent you on the Board of Governors. I look forward to the diverse and inclusive campus community we will continue to build together.
