A strong leader must be prepared to ask the tough questions, willing to roll up one’s sleeves, and demonstrate a commitment to unwavering integrity. I have been fortunate in my career to work with leadership who exemplify these three attributes, and I strive to embody the key traits in my work every day as a staff member at UBC.
For the past 20 years, I have gleaned extensive experience in the intricacies and unique complexities of the higher education system in Canada. During this time, I studied and worked at six institutions across Canada and garnered first-hand experience as an undergraduate student, graduate student and postdoctoral fellow, and over the past six years, as a staff member at UBC. As a member of the Board of Governors, I would draw on my combination of educational and administrative leadership experience to fulfil my role.
I believe that a healthy and responsive higher education system is a cornerstone of a productive society. My passion for the open and free pursuit of knowledge and my desire to expand and strengthen the future of our higher education institutions drives me in my work every day. In this, I am not alone; I’m consistently amazed at how deeply invested UBC’s staff members are in the success of this university. Recognizing the importance of their voice, I would be honored to advocate on behalf of my staff colleagues as a member of UBC’s Board of Governors.
