Ceremony readers & greeters

All Faculties will be asked to provide both a reader and a greeter for the graduation ceremonies.

  • Reader – The reader will read the names of students as they cross the stage (usually faculty associate dean or director). As of May 2023, UBC has coordinated professional readers for Masters, undergraduate degrees and diplomas. For doctoral degrees, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will coordinate readers.
  • Greeter- The greeter will shake student’s hands on stage (usually faculty dean or designate).
